Starbucks in Atlanta

PLEASE NOTE
The stores pictured below are labeled with information that comes directly from the official Starbucks web site. The only alterations I have made are to remove certain punctuation marks. Please do not report any errors in the names or spellings of streets or cities to me, but rather to Starbucks. Once they fix the error on their end, my database will pick it up. I will fill missing photograph dates as I have time, and I will continue to try and obtain store opening dates.

867 Peachtree

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 06 November 1999

The first Midtown store is nothing to sneeze at, however--it's one of the prettiest in the city. Very spacious and comfortable, with the interior architecture dividing up the seating area so that one can have the sense of privacy, if in a meeting or study group for example. One unusual element was an artist offering to do a charicature or painting of some sort--for renumeration, of course.

Buckhead (B&N)

Keep heading north on Peachtree, and we reach Buckhead, which is the place to go for Atlanta's nightlife. But we should just take note and keep going, because the more insteresting store...

Cambridge Square

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: ?

The wallpaper on a back wall of this location had me puzzled--it looked like it really might be unique to the store, rather than a new corporate standard. However, I soon encountered the same at several other Atlanta locations. I do not recall seeing it in any other market, which makes me wonder if it was a decision made at the district level.

And continuing north on Peachtree I found another sharp-looking store, and a pleasant surprise--a telephone line!! None of the baristas at the previous stores could tell me of a location that offered this convenience, and I was pleased to be able to upload my photographs and offer a play-by-play of my tour. Truthfully told, however, the store is prettier from the outside than the inside--it's pretty old. But the manager is really cool.

...and this one is in an almost symmetrical location on the west side of the perimeter, along I-75. This is almost most definitely the prettiest store in the Atlanta area. It has a quaint quality about it the building, and the trees and building in the background provide an interesting contrast. The interior is spacious and well-decorated. And it has modem jacks--could you ask for more?

Alpharetta Barnes & Noble, Alpharetta

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 07 November 1999

By and by, Starbucks locations attached to other business's such as grocery stores or bookstores are not very interesting, but this B&N location in Alpharetta defies the pattern with the buildings intricate stonework.

Alpharetta Crossing, Alpharetta

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 07 November 1999

The Store Locator had me wondering up and down State Highway 400 untill I called this store and discovered that the four Alpharetta were conveniently close to one another. This store I found particularly interesting because of the elderly couple playing Scrabble. I longed to join them, but I had... responsibilities.

Why such an odd angle, you ask? That would be because of the Hummer-fucker parked in front. What's a Hummer-fucker, you ask? That would be anybody who drives a Hummer to Starbcks without a socially justifiable reason.

This nifty mall location was a pleasant surprise. Although labeled a kiosk on the mall directory, you can see that the deviates from the conventional. I like the way that the Starbucks logo is integrated into the elevator, almost as if the Siren were watching over us from above, or perhaps lifting us higher with the potent power of the bean.

Decatur Square, Decatur

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 07 November 1999

Besides the stores on Peachtree Street, there aren't that many inside the Perimeter. This store and the next two are clustered in or near the Virginia Highlands community.

Arbor Place, Douglasville

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 07 November 1999

Douglasville is almost 30 miles from downtown Atlanta, and when I first visited in November '99 I was a little miffed that at 10:00 AM this mall location had not yet opened. But Atlanta freeways have many lanes (which are still insufficient during rush-hour), enabling traffic to move pretty quickly (90-100+ mph) on weekends. So it was just a quick deviation from my cousin's house one weekend in February, and I was able to complete my Atlanta cycle. One curious thing--every once in a while barista balks at selling me a short coffee, but this was the first one to claim it was a "kid's size".

At this store I saw a twist on the standard corporate artwork. The bea photos in back were new and had more of a white border, and the "Let's talk..." story was cut into four small white panels rather than one big mural.

I prefer a more custom design, but I appreciate that they are at least keeping things fresh.

Boy, I wish that I had slept just an hour less, that I could have arrived at this lovely store just as the sun was peeking over the building. South of Atlanta in Fayette county, this store has a deck so appealing to locals that the management posted a sign requesting that the area be reserved for customers. It's only fair.

The store also has the distinction of being the sole location south of I-20... can you demographic whizzes out there guess why?

This is one of the prettiest Starbucks I have encountered anywhere. The interior decor is nothing special--it's the outside and view across the lake that totally makes this store stand out! It's too bad this store is so far on the outskirts of the metroplex, cause if I had to choose one store to hang out... this would be it. Click 'More...' to see the cool deck they've built a ways from the store, position right on the lake. Can't beat that!

Licensed Stores (not operated by Starbucks)

PLEASE NOTE
The list below is not meant to be a complete list of licensed stores. Some licensed stores are not listed on the Starbucks web site, and some of the stores listed below might have closed. That's not really important. I only keep track of them so I know which ones I don't need to visit. But if you know for certain that any of these are actually operated by Starbucks, please let me know (and send me a phone # so I can double-confirm).
