During the night I had reset my alarm from 8:25 to 8:20, and then later in the morning I reset it again, to 8:15. Shorly before 8:00 I decided there was no point in pushing it--15 minutes more or less wasn't going to make a difference. Coffee... that's the only thing that was going to help. And biscuits. Of course. From the Coffee Break Cafe. Not bad, and worth giving up a bit of sleep for.

Part of the reason I had so much trouble sleeping was doubtlessly my anticipation of Sunday's games, both the late-bird and the main event. I wouldn't say it was foremost on my mind, but I definitely spent a good bit of time wondering if my great tiles could last.

While the run continued into my first game, against Mark Owens, my tiles against Eric were seriously Harsh. Not only was I outblanked, I only drew four Es. Even at the end of the game, with a tile pool of DEEEEINNWW, I played off two tiles and drew... both Ws!!!

Next, Mike Paxon, and despite his double blanks, I frankly got the better tiles. Got a couple of cool plays down though--A(WEIGH), (SH)OJI, and FUNKY.

HOLY SNEEZING PORCUPINES!!! My remarch with Eric looked like an inversion of my game against Paxson. I got the double-blank bingo, but Eric got down MOONIER, SAT(I)ATE, and REEAR(N)ED. I stayed in it with ENTRAIN, but when I found myself holding AEILLUU and down 28, I thought I was done for. I was loathe to play ILEAL for 20 and leave UU, but I needed the points. My only chance, I thought, was to pull the J. I did, but also the W for FIJOUUW--my chances looked lousy. How I won it was just freaky, in my opinion.

Annotated Game

I guess Eric doesn't hold a grudge, and we headed out for lunch once again. His suggestion, the Middle Eastern restaurant he had discovered on Saturday. Istanbul Palace, I think. There we ran into some other players, where the issue of Ken's attempts at quieting the room came up. I guessed that many players were talking about that throughout the evening, and, as I suspected some stated that they would never attend any more of Ken's events. I myself are more tolerant of these things, and Eric felt the same way, but we were both concerned about other Division 1 players dropping out. Doesn't matter how nice the director is if the Div. 1 players don't go.
